Field Trips and Park Walks

April 23 – 26, 2009

Field Trips:

All walks and field trips leave from the River Day Use area unless otherwise noted. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to departure.

Field Trip registrants are treated "first come, first served". Reserve early. Most trips will fill quickly. We recommend you make your registration as soon as possible after February 1st to reserve your place.

Field trips leave from the main event area in the River Day Use area at Dead Horse Ranch State Park unless noted otherwise.

Most field trips include transportation unless noted otherwise.

Some of our trips are easy walks and others are considered strenuous. We have established a system to rate the difficulty of the trips, listed below. We do advise you to be aware of your own limitations. We want you to have an enjoyable experience.

1 - feeder watching, with maybe a little walking
2 - easy walking, could involve distance but flat
3 - involves hiking, some elevation gain/loss
4 - a true adventure trip, almost a safari
5 - wheelchair accessible

There are several symbols that you will see when reviewing the schedules and event descriptions. The following explains the meaning of these symbols.

= intense birding
= casual to moderate birding
= specialty trip, includes activities other than birding
= no birding on this trip
= new trip this year
= accessible trip

Those trips that may require special skills include mountain bike rides and canoe trips. There is a weight limit of 200 lbs on these trips. We recommend that you have some knowledge of your skill and physical limitations.

Some field trips include meals. We will supply water and coolers for all trips. You may also want to bring along additional water and snacks. It is recommended that you always carry plenty of water in the Arizona outdoors.

Park Walks:

Please sign-up for Park Walks on your registration form. There is a registration fee connected with the walks. These walks will be limited in the number of participants; we wouldn’t want you to be disappointed.
