OUR FEATURED ART

"A Decade of Discovery"

2010

In anticipation of our 10th anniversary, we looked back at the decade since our first event and created a tile of our past art. The first year our logo was created by local artist Gary Romig. The common black-hawk nests along the Verde River and we thought that would be the perfect representative for the new event.

Keeping with that same idea, the next year we featured the art of a fledgling young artist, 17 year old Erica Moffitt. She has grown to become a successful artist and we are so proud to have been able to feature her work.

The third year we were offered a print of a vermilion flycatcher by Gigi Stateham. Stunning! That year we sold out of our t-shirts featuring her art.

The fourth featured Zack Zdinak’s Scott’s oriole. Zack is the present president of Northern Arizona Audubon, one of the founding partners.

In celebration of our fifth year we went back to Gary Romig for a collage of some of our colorful favorites.

Our sixth year started a new tradition by setting a first annual theme for the festival. Randy Miller, beloved leader of our signature event, the Cadillac Canoe Brunch, created a stunning collection of ancient rock art representing birds. It’s my personal favorite - Ten Thousand Years of Birding.

Year seven found us featuring another favorite trip, the Condor Caper, with an enhanced photograph by Bob Coates. An amazing shot.

In 2008 we featured wildlife’s connection with the land and our local organic farms. David Lash created a thought-provoking scene with the common raven.

This past year we honored our Verde River with another of Gigi Stateham’s beautiful pieces of the great blue heron with the Tuzigoot ruin in the background.

All of the artwork has been donated by the artists in support of the festival. Their work has enriched the festival and truly demonstrates that this has been

“A Decade of Discovery”.
